Double Chocolate Oreo Truffles

by admin on April 29, 2009

Every now and then I like to treat my family to a sweet treat that doesn’t come out of box or plastic container. When I found this recipe, I just had to try it. Who doesn’t like an Oreo cookie? Try this recipe and you’ll never look at the famous cream wafer cookie the same ever again. You can always use the store brand chocolate wafer cookies to save a few pennies. Next time I am going to try this recipe with mint Oreo’s…a perfect after dinner treat!

Ingredients
1 pkg. (1 lb. 2 oz.) OREO Cookies, finely crushed, divided
1 pkg. (8 oz.) Cream Cheese, softened
2 pkg. (8 squares each) Semi-Sweet Chocolate, melted

Directions:
MIX 3 cups of the cookie crumbs and the cream cheese until well blended
Shape into 42 (1-inch) balls.

DIP balls in melted chocolate using a fork
Tap off extra choclate by striking fork gently along the inside of the bowl after dipping
Place truffles on waxed paper-covered baking sheet
Sprinkle with remaining cookie crumbs or chocolate sprinkles

REFRIGERATE 1 hour or until firm
Store any leftover truffles in tightly covered container in refrigerator

Make it a Gift: Fill a medium sized decorative tin or large mason jar with at least one dozen of the truffles. Attach the truffle recipe and a one inch cookie scoop to the container by securing with raffia ribbon or your favorite wrapping twine. Here is an example of a cookie scoop that I found online…you may want to purchase one for yourself, too. Perfectly shaped and uniform cookies and truffles every time!
