Paula Deen’s Gooey Butter Cake

by admin on May 6, 2009

This recipe is so easy and delicious! If you haven’t tried it yet, take my word for it…it’s to die for! This recipe is very rich and very filling, so be forewarned! When making this recipe I use my handy dandy 9×13 springform pan so that I may cut into small squares and remove easily for serving. If you don’t have one, that’s OK. Just line your pan with parchment paper or greased aluminum foil and lift out after baking. Be sure to let cool completely before cutting…chilling for about 30 minutes won’t hurt either! Here is the recipe!

Ingredients

Cake:
1 18 1/4-ounce package yellow cake mix (I have also used chocolate, and it’s wonderful!)
1 egg
8 tablespoons butter, melted

Filling:
1 8-ounce package cream cheese,softened
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
8 tablespoons butter, melted
1 16-ounce box powdered sugar

Directions
* Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
* Combine the cake mix, egg, and butter and mix well with an electric mixer.
* Pat the mixture into the bottom of a lightly greased 13 by 9-inch baking pan.
* Prepare Filling
* In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese until smooth.
* Add the eggs, vanilla, and butter and beat together.
* Add the powdered sugar and mix well.
* Spread over cake batter and bake for 40 to 50 minutes.
* Make sure not to over bake as the center should be a little gooey.
Yield: 6 to 8 servings

Make it a Gift: Deliver this luscious recipe to your next get together in a brand new springform pan. This is the one that I have and it’s wonderful. I found mine on clearance for about $10 at our local Ollie’s Bargain Outlet a few years ago and it’s still going strong!
