Your Twist on Corn on the Cob

by admin on July 19, 2009

Ummm…corn on the cob! It’s finally in season here in Southwestern, PA and I have the water boiling as we speak! Just for fun I posted a poll on facebook asking how my friends like to prepare the traditional classic. I was quite excited and surprised by the response! I can’t wait to try some of these recipe variations and techniques myself! Enjoy!

Chris J:
We did ours over the campfire while we were camping! Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

Ken M: In the husk, grilled until done – then finished off on the fire just a few more minutes. Then seasoned to taste – but nothing overboard….. IT”S CORN ON THE COB!!

Sam S:
…big pot, salt, pepper, butter, and “Old Bay” seasoning, marinate on low heat for about 30 min.’s, then either turn up the heat and boil, or throw those jokers on a heated grill. I boil mine. I call it “crack on the cob”. You will be addicted, if you do it correctly. Usually, my mom is the only one who ever gets my secret recipes.

Julie P:
I am usually all for adding things for flavor but when it comes to corn on the cob: I cook it in hot water and eat as is. Delish!!

Anne T:
I rub mine with a fresh lime quarter and sprinkle with some Old Bay Seasoning….yummm!

Brian H:
I add a little sugar to the water but otherwise I’m traditional.

Jennifer Melnick Carota
I read that some folks add milk and brown sugar to the water, but I think that’s overkill…a great ear of corn doesn’t need all that sweetness. I like adding spices and rubs after cooking…just me, though J

Mona Z:
I always do mine in the microwave – before shucking. They come out perfectly steamed and the silk falls right off. Then just butter, salt, and pepper. YUM!!

Diane K:
I love the lime and Old Bay idea. I’ll tell you how I do corn on the cob, all the foodies should hold onto their chairs though. Typically, it’s just me eating one ear at a time so I take a little shortcut. I shuck it, wrap a damp paper towel around it and microwave it for 3 minutes. Then I spray it with a little I Can’t Believe it’s Not Butter and put ground sea salt and pepper on it. If I really need a shortcut, I just throw the ear in the microwave and shuck it after it cools a little. Easy and tasty!Butter and put ground sea salt and ground fresh pepper on it. If I really need a shortcut, I just throw the ear in the microwave and shuck it after it cools a little. Easy and tasty!

How do you like your corn on the cob? Any secrets that you would like to share! Can’t wait to hear your response!
